Introduction to Proof: Equivalence relations and classes; Body/Emotion
Lesson Study Resources
Description: Using examples generated from their own birthdays and from game-play boards that they generate themselves, students will explore the characteristics of relationships that they identify. The lesson summary will use their examples to carefully define a relation on a set A and the properties reflexive, symmetric, and transitive. By engaging their bodies in representing their self-defined relations, we hope that students will engage with these abstract properties through multiple senses and ways of understanding.
When and Where: CSU cross-campus team, 2025–26
Team members: Ben Ford (Sonoma State; facilitator), Jorge Garcia (Channel Islands), Chad Sprouse (Northridge), Sayonita Ghosh Hajra (Sacramento), William Caspar (Fullerton)
